With 2,592 MCS certified battery installers across the UK, home energy storage is more accessible than ever.
What is home battery storage?
A home battery stores electricity for later use. The simplest setup charges overnight when electricity is cheapest (as low as 9.5p/kWh on tariffs like Octopus Go) and powers your home during the day when rates are higher. If you have solar panels, a battery also lets you store surplus energy instead of exporting it.
Costs
A typical system costs £2,500–8,000. Prices continue to fall as the technology matures. Some providers like Habo Energy offer fully installed systems from £4,599.
Is it worth it?
Using a time-of-use tariff, a home battery can save ~£900 per year by shifting your electricity usage to cheap overnight rates. With solar panels, a battery also increases self-consumption from ~30–50% to 70–90%, further reducing what you buy from the grid.
